Alvenaria de tijolo e poética arquitetônica no complexo fabril Tecelagem Parahyba

Abstract

Between 1925 and 1973, brick masonry was very much used as building system in the construction of Tecelagem Parahyba weaving factory situated in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Brazil. In situ research and study of archival and bibliographical material was condensed in an inventory of typologies and architects, By the analysis of this inventory was possible understood the different uses of this building practice, within the international context, by different architects that were responsible for the successive transformations of the weaving mill:Ricardo Severo, Rino Levi, Carlos Millan, Clemente Gomes, Burle Marx and Ricardo Veiga. Their individual training and mutual influence concurred to make of Tecelagem Parahyba a coherent and unique industrial heritage site. The evolutions of different aesthetic movements during the 20th century changed the use of facing bricks in this important case study transformed by the projects of this group of influential Brazilian architects of the modernism and understand the expression inside the industrial culture.
