Job stories: from interesting to inspiring

| dc.description.abstract | Este trabalho foi concebido com o objetivo principal de promover a aprendizagem de línguas. Tudo os materiais usados são autênticos para promover as habilidades de nível do aluno em um contexto de construção de conhecimento. As unidades estão divididas em seções e as atividades foram desenvolvidas levando em consideração os propósitos sociais, portanto a abordagem comunicativa será encontrada (ver mais sobre isso na Seção Racional). A interação é incentivada ao longo das atividades e as quatro habilidades linguísticas - leitura, audição, fala e escrita são eliciadas. O tema central escolhido para ambas as unidades é Jobs e as unidades podem ser perfeitamente trabalhadas na sequência sugerida com o mesmo público, uma vez que se relacionam. O primeiro unidade é intitulada “Histórias de Emprego Interessantes” e a segunda “Histórias de Emprego Inspiradoras” e como consideram contextos de trabalho, são altamente recomendados para adultos (18 anos em diante) como aprendizes de línguas. A vida profissional é importante hoje em dia. É um tema atual e relevante tornando as unidades interessantes de uma forma que envolva os alunos nelas. O público-alvo para este trabalho é adultos de Inglês como segunda língua em escolas de idiomas, no Intermediário Nível de Inglês (Nível B1 de acordo com o Common European Framework). As unidades são divididas em cinco seções principais. Eles são VAMOS LER!, VAMOS OUÇA!, VAMOS FALAR!, VAMOS ESCREVER! e VAMOS TRABALHAR NA LINGUAGEM! Cada seção se concentra em uma habilidade linguística seguindo esta ordem: leitura, audição, falando e escrevendo. A última seção foca na gramática trabalhada na unidade, que é apresentado indutivamente. Os tópicos gramaticais abordados neste trabalho são Superlativos e Comparativos, respectivamente. Cada seção principal também é dividida em três partes. Eles são chamados PRIMEIRO DE TODOS, LÁ VAI e FINALMENTE representando a divisão de pré-atividades (“primeiro de todos”), enquanto atividades (“lá vai”) e atividades pós (“finalmente”). Esta divisão permite que os alunos trabalhem as atividades de forma mais comunicativa. Eles fariam pares, trabalham em pequenos grupos e às vezes se apresentam individualmente. As unidades deste trabalho são baseadas em tarefas, incentivando a interação espontânea, a cooperação, a troca de turnos para atingir os objetivos comunicativos. | |

| local.description.resumo | This work was designed with the main purpose of promoting language learning. All materials used are authentic in order to promote learner’s level skills in a knowledgebuilding context. The units are divided in sections and activities were developed taking into consideration social purposes, therefore the communicative approach will be found (see more about it at Rationale Section). Interaction is encouraged throughout the activities and the four language skills - reading, listening, speaking and writing are elicited. The core theme chosen for both units is Jobs and the units can perfectly be worked in the sequence suggested with the same audience, once they relate to each other. The first unit is titled “Interesting Job Stories” and the second one “Inspiring Job Stories” and as they consider working contexts, they are highly recommended for adults (18 years old on) as language learners. The professional life is important nowadays. It is a current and relevant theme making the units interesting in a way that involves students in them. The target audience for this work is adults of English as a second language at language schools, in the Intermediate Level of English (Level B1 according to the Common European Framework). The units are divided in five main sections. They are LET’S READ!, LET’S LISTEN!, LET’S SPEAK!, LET’S WRITE! and LET’S WORK ON LANGUAGE! Each section focuses on one language skill following this order: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The last section focuses on the grammar worked on the unit, which is presented inductively. The grammar topics covered in this work are Superlatives and Comparatives, respectively. Each main section is also divided into three parts. They are called FIRST OF ALL, THERE IT GOES and FINALLY representing the division of pre activities (“first of all”), while activities (“there it goes”) and post activities (“finally”). This division allows students to work on the activities in a more communicative way. They would make pairs, work on small groups and sometimes perform individually. Units in this work are taskbased, encouraging spontaneous interaction, cooperation, turn taking negotiation in order to achieve communicative goals. | |
