Coremática: um olhar geográfico sobre o espaço

Abstract

It is notorious the dialogue already established between geography and cartography, since the latter comes from the first as form of communication through the graphic representation. However, the evolution of these areas has led to the specialization and the separation between them. In cartography the contribution of several sciences, especially the exact ones, resignified the bases of production of euclidean maps, systematized and informative. Thus, the representations of cartography no longer fully meet the interests of geography, since they do not prioritize the spatialities. Underutilization of mapping potential for geographic purposes has encouraged new forms of space representation. Among them, the corematics stands out because it constitutes more than a method in adhering to the principles of geographical reasoning; on it, the euclidean bases are not a concept in the creation of graphic models, although it does not ignore them. This article deals with this distance between geography and cartography, hemming corematics as a possibility of representation in the context of geographic cartography. It is also presented here the study of socio-environmental conflicts in progress in Serra do Gandarela and surroundings, a mountain range located in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero (MG), as a background to demonstrate the contribution of the corematics modeling onto the analysis of facts and phenomena from the geographical point of view.
