Lirismo social: a estética do vazio em Vinicius de Moraes

Abstract

This study examines the social lyricism of Vinicius de Moraes through the lenses of emptiness, silence, melancholy, and art, positioning of lyricism and social critique as complementary forces. The first chapter highlights silence as an expressive power, a non-verbal language that exposes structural absences such as the neglect of the working classes. In the second chapter, melancholy emerges as a sensitive response to loss and inequality, permeating the poetic subject with critical awareness and shared sorrow. The third chapter presents art as a space of condensed emptiness, where death, absence, and symbolic void find aesthetic form. Throughout the work, thinkers such as Schopenhauer, Bauman, Barthes, Blanchot, and Eagleton provide theoretical support, viewing emptiness not as failure but as a creative force. Vinicius’s poetry thus becomes a political and existential gesture that transforms suffering into language, loss into memory, and silence into resistance. As such, the study suggests that Vinicius’s lyricism carries a rare ethical and aesthetic density, operating in the interstice between the individual and the collective, the intimate and the social, the spoken and the unsaid.
