Avaliação do forame lingual medial em tomografias computadorizadas - uma revisão de literatura

Abstract

The objective of this work was to carry out a survey of the anatomical characteristics of the medial lingual foramina, based on research already published. Although the content of the incisor channels related to these foramina may vary; there are consistent reports of postoperative complications in the anterior region of the mandible, such as temporary paresthesias and sublingual hematomas compromising the upper respiratory tract. The amount of medial lingual foramina found in anatomical and imaging studies indicated that this structure is present in the absolute majority of individuals, with prevalence ranging from 93.33% to 100 of this anatomical finding in different populations. Its anatomical characteristics are varied, in number and morphology. In evaluations of the diameter of the foramens, the general mean value varied from 0.8mm to 1.2mm, with 0.2mm being the smallest diameter found, and 2.63mm the largest. Considering the articles selected for the present work, the cone beam computed tomography has a high diagnostic accuracy for the evaluation of the mandibular anterior region, presenting itself as an important complementary exam in surgical planning for Dentistry
