Subjetividade e "interioridade nacional": o deslocamento imposto por J. Cabral de M. Neto

Abstract

We present a hypothesis in the form of a commentary: in the historical process of formation of Brazilian literary and intellectual culture, there are clear indices of the constitution of a shared and common dimension between literature, history and social and philosophical thought. In this common ground, we perceive a movement that directs reflection on the configuration of modern subjectivity in the sense of understanding it as a national interiority. In this strongly constituted soil, the work of J. Cabral de Melo Neto imposes itself as a displacement. To think about it, I turn not to poetry, but to reflection on modern poetry in critical prose written by the author in the 1950s in two well-known texts “Poetry and composition” (1952 ) and “On the modern function of poetry” ( 1957).
