Biblioteconomia: fundamentos e desafios contemporâneos

Abstract

In this text we present a map of the epistemological perspectives of Librarianship starting from three contemporary questions that stand for the area: the current wide access to the information, without the society has effectively become more critical, just or democratic; the development of information retrieval technologies and the possibilities of their use by libraries; and the active character of the people in relation to the informational resources. The different theoretical currents of Librarianship are analyzed, from the nineteenth century through the currents developed in the twentieth century and reaching the contemporary perspectives, among which stand out, studies in mediation and appropriation of information, post-truth discussion, new Librarianship and the new mission of the library, the management of cultural heritage, the pursuit of diversity and plurality by libraries, the library as a public sphere, library 2.0, digital libraries and the informational competence movement.
