Resumo
A Copa do Mundo de 1958 tornou-se um limiar de passagem do complexo de vira-latas para o herói genial de Nelson Rodrigues. Todavia, tal sentimento construído na fronteira imaginária da Copa da Suécia poderia ser notado em qualquer cidade brasileira? Neste artigo, objetiva-se discutir nuanças que pairam sobre o tema Copa do Mundo de Futebol e o próprio futebol, no período que circundou a Copa de 1958, tomando por base a imprensa do Rio de Janeiro e da cidade de Montes Claros, Norte de Minas Gerais. Conclui-se que o futebol tinha peculiaridades inerentes ao aspecto interno, ou seja, o jornal montes-clarense Gazeta de Norte enfocava o futebol municipal, destacando os eventos da cidade em detrimento do futebol externo. Mesmo que o futebol já detivesse significativa importância, não se nota no jornal norte-mineiro crônicas análogas às feitas ao estilo de Nelson Rodrigues, supostamente refletindo o brasileiro através do futebol.
Abstract
The 1958 World Cup has become a treshold of Nelson Rodrigues’s “mongrel complex” to the “great hero”. Nevertheless, could such sentiment built on the imaginary boundaries of the Sweden Cup be noticed in any other Brazilian city? This piece aims to discuss the nuances that hang over the topic of the World Cup and the football circa the 1958 Cup, using the Rio de Janeiro and Montes Claros (in the north of Minas Gerais State) printing press as reference. The conclusion is that football had peculiarities attached to the internal aspect, hence the Montes Claros newspaper Gazeta de Norte focused on the local football, highlighting the city events rather than the non-local football. Although football held considerable importance, it is not noticed on the north of Minas Gerais newspapaer similar chronicles to the Nelson Rodriguesstyle, which supposedly conveyd the Brazilian people through football.
