Ouro Preto, cidade patrimônio: uma perspectiva a partir do Morro Santana

Abstract

This work aims to understand questions about cultural heritage, using as a case study, the city of Ouro Preto. The field work consists of ethnographic research conducted in Morro Santana, suburb to the historic center, in particular through the follow-up during the second half of 2015 of heritage education classes, which are offered since 2009 at the public school Juventina Drummond. The main research objective was to understand the appropriations with respect to the idea of heritage by these students, seeking to also investigate the prospects of the body responsible for the preservation and safeguarding of such property in the city, and the history of their own patrimonial policy in Brazil. From this participant observation experience of heritage education program at a public school in the suburb of Ouro Preto, interviews with managers of the agency responsible for the national cultural heritage protection, literature review on the history of conservation policy cultural heritage of Brazil, and from my own experience as a resident and cultural manager in the city for 11 years, reflect on popular participation and equity, and on the changes that have occurred in relation to equity practices in Ouro Preto.
