Abstract

The objective of this study was to describe the benefits and challenges faced during the implementation of the hospital cost management system linked to the OtimizaSUS Project, from the perspective of hospital managers from Minas Gerais participating in the first wave. The method adopted was the cases study. The collection techniques used were semi-structured interviews and document analysis. Seven hospitals participated in the study. The data content analysis technique was used. The benefits were: improving the implementation of the cost management culture; promoting greater cost control and data monitoring; obtaining information about their own costs; promoting a fairer and more transparent approach to the remuneration of services provided by hospitals. The difficulties were: adaptation to the cost calculation system (ApuraSUS); adaptation of cost centers; compulsory adherence to the ApuraSUS System.
