Lazer e cultura: o cotidiano da comunidade dos Arturos

Abstract

This study identifies and analyzes the leisure practices and culture in daily life of the Comunidade dos Arturos, Contagem – MG. This location was marked by the large number of slaves, which made it possible to maintain the African’s cultural manifestations. We approach the history and the identity of the Community, with an emphasis on how they appropriate the space and their traditions.Methodologically, we used observation and semi-structured interviews, elaborated from three points: the identification of leisure practices of the community; identification of spaces and their appropriation; identification of children’s leisure practices. We understand with this research that the leisure and the relation of the children with the play in these spaces present, besides the playful dimension, a cultural identity valued and cultivated by the perpetuation of the knowledge of their ancestors.
