A relação entre a evolução da pandemia e a produção de notícias de verificação sobre Covid-19 na América Latina

Abstract

This work aims to analyze the relationship between the evolution of the pandemic and the evolution of fact-checking journalism produced in 2020 in five Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico. Based on a quantitative approach, based on the frequency of fact-checking, associated with the analysis of the number of people infected and killed by COVID-19, this work analyzed the existence of patterns in the production of fact-checking. The main results indicated that the large volume of fact-checking preceded the peak of the first wave of the pandemic and that the main factor in combating disinformation appeared to be reality and not the narrative dispute established between fake news and fact-checking.
