JUST LIVE IT! is an authentic material developed based on the principles learned during the course offered by CEI and it is a required final paper for the conclusion of the Teaching English Specialization Course at UFMG. I wish with this material provide not only content, but also, introduce the some 21st century skills like critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaborative work and cross cultural understanding to those teachers interested in working with inquiry-based learning techniques and realia. JUST LIVE IT! is a material divided in two units approaching the four communicative skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Two units with up-to-date themes were carefully designed for Brazilian young learners from high school or language schools, on the Pre-Intermediate/Intermediate Level (according to the Common European Framework - B1). I do believe with these two units, people who have never thought about being a volunteer or becoming an exchange student will see both opportunities with different eyes.
In this level, students are able to understand and interact with others in real life situations at a school, or while traveling where this language is spoken and also describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions, and briefly give opinions and talk about plans. It is important to inform that this material has been created without commercial purposes and cannot be reproduced, unless with
previous consent from the author. These units are about topics which young students tend to demonstrate interest in doing based on
my previous in-class conversation experiences and they can be interesting for adults, or maybe, family discussions. “Volunteering programs” and “Becoming exchange students” lead people directly and indirectly to live an experience some of them will have never lived before like helping the community they belong to or living abroad. Throughout unit 1, students and teachers will perceive a variety of things that can be done and developed in order to help our community. There are many different ways of helping people close to us to improve their quality of life; we just have to donate not only money but a bit of our time which is not much, and this is exactly what unit 1 wants the learner to think about doing as a citizen. In unit 2, being an exchange student means much more than learning a new language but also improving yourself as a human being. When you decide to live abroad, you will be able to match your culture and the new habits of a different one and get the best of both for your life. Being an exchange student means much more than just living abroad because when you come back, you are not the same person you were before traveling. Our attitudes change and we learn so many new things. This is the reason I chose this topic; I wanted to stimulate the learner to experience it.
Abstract
APENAS VIVA! é um material autêntico desenvolvido com base nos princípios aprendidos durante o curso oferecido pelo CEI e é um trabalho final obrigatório para a conclusão da Especialização em Ensino de Inglês Curso da UFMG. Desejo com este material fornecer não só conteúdo, mas também, apresentar o 21º habilidades do século como pensamento crítico, criatividade, comunicação, trabalho colaborativo e compreensão transcultural para aqueles professores interessados em trabalhar com técnicas e realidades de aprendizagem baseadas na investigação. APENAS VIVA! é um material dividido em duas unidades abordando as quatro habilidades comunicativas: falar, ouvir, ler e escrever. Duas unidades com temas atualizados foram cuidadosamente projetadas para jovens aprendizes brasileiros de alto escola ou escolas de idiomas, no Nível Pré-Intermediário/Intermediário (de acordo com o Common
Quadro Europeu - B1). Acredito que com essas duas unidades, pessoas que nunca pensaram em ser um voluntário ou se tornar um estudante de intercâmbio verá ambas as oportunidades com olhos diferentes. Neste nível, os alunos são capazes de compreender e interagir com os outros em situações da vida real em um escola, ou durante uma viagem onde esta língua é falada e também descrever experiências e eventos, sonhos, esperanças e ambições, e brevemente dar opiniões e falar sobre planos. É importante informar que este material foi criado sem fins comerciais e não pode ser reproduzido, a menos que com consentimento prévio do autor. Estas unidades são sobre temas que os jovens estudantes tendem a demonstrar interesse em fazer com base em minhas experiências anteriores de conversação em sala de aula e elas podem ser interessantes para adultos, ou talvez para a família
discussões. “Programas de voluntariado” e “Tornar-se estudantes de intercâmbio” conduzem as pessoas de forma direta e
indiretamente para viver uma experiência que alguns deles nunca viveram antes, como ajudar a comunidade pertencem ou vivem no exterior. Ao longo da unidade 1, alunos e professores perceberão uma variedade de coisas que podem ser feitas e
desenvolvido para ajudar nossa comunidade. Há muitas maneiras diferentes de ajudar as pessoas próximas a nós a melhorar sua qualidade de vida; só temos que doar não só dinheiro, mas um pouco do nosso tempo que não é muito, e é exatamente isso que a unidade 1 quer que o aluno pense em fazer como cidadão. Na unidade 2, ser intercambista significa muito mais do que aprender um novo idioma, mas também melhorar a si mesmo como ser humano. Quando você decidir morar no exterior, você poderá igualar seu
cultura e os novos hábitos de um diferente e obter o melhor de ambos para sua vida. Sendo uma troca estudante significa muito mais do que apenas morar no exterior porque quando você volta, você não é o mesmo pessoa que você era antes de viajar. Nossas atitudes mudam e aprendemos muitas coisas novas. Isto é o razão pela qual escolhi este tema; Eu queria estimular o aluno a experimentá-lo.
