Resumo
O exemplum é um gênero literário que, desde a Antiguidade até o Medievo, foi utilizado para ilustrar argumentos de discursos persuasivos. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é contextualizar e analisar o gênero exemplum, no recorte dos séculos XII e XIV, referentes à publicação de duas compilações famosas de exempla na Idade Média, o Disciplina Clericalis e o Gesta Romanorum. A partir das obras citadas, esta pesquisa também tem como objetivo mapear algumas das estratégias pedagógicas adotadas pela Igreja Medieval, compreendendo o período entre os séculos XII-XIV, para destacar a importância do exemplum dentro do ambiente de pregação religiosa. Considerando o Disciplina Clericalis e o Gesta Romanorum como fontes importantes de transmissão de histórias, também compete a este trabalho uma análise comparativa entre ambos os textos, além de apresentar suas respectivas traduções, inéditas em língua portuguesa, sendo a tradução na íntegra do Disciplina Clericalis e a tradução parcial (60 exempla) do Gesta Romanorum.
Abstract
The exemplum is a literary genre that, from antiquity to the Middle Ages, was used to illustrate arguments in persuasive speeches. The main objective of this work is to contextualize and analyse the exemplum genre in the 12th and 14th centuries, with reference to the publication of two famous compilations of exempla in the Middle Ages, the Disciplina Clericalis and the Gesta Romanorum. Based on these works, this research also aims to map some of the pedagogical strategies adopted by the Medieval Church, covering the period between the 12th and 14th centuries, in order to highlight the importance of the exemplum within the religious preaching environment. Considering the Disciplina Clericalis and the Gesta Romanorum as important sources for the transmission of stories, this work also undertakes a comparative analysis of both texts, as well as presenting their respective translations, unpublished in Portuguese, being the full translation of the Disciplina Clericalis and the partial translation (60 exempla) of the Gesta Romanorum.
