A cidade e sua lírica geometria decorativa: patrimônio gráfico e popular, da cidade ao papel

Abstract

This article presents the research The city and its lyrical decorative geometry that aims to promote, through an experimental and transdisciplinary approach, a unique interaction between the fields of Architecture, Visual Arts and Graphic Design, having as a starting point the graphic and creative processes mobilized by the production of an interactive graphic material, a box containing a variety of objects and prints that creatively translate elements of popular Art Deco architecture of the city of Belo Horizonte.Taking the notion of “graphic memory” as the main operator concept, it is believed that it is capable of critically illuminating objects concerning Architecture and Urbanism, concerning the safeguarding, from images, materialities, identities and techniques that are vanishing from the city. It is also aimed, from the pragmatic-experimental and theoreticalcritical procedures, to turn the work into an object that triggers questions and reflections on the historical-critical unfolding for the Brazilian modernism and cultural identity, tangible on the Art Deco style in its popular manifestations; the ornament presence in urban space; how artists and designers work the memory of cities; the artist’s book as a possible place of safeguarding and transcreation of urban memory.
