Práticas informacionais das apenadas do Centro de Referência à Gestante Privada de Liberdade de Vespasiano- MG

Abstract

Presents a research of the information practices of pregnant inmates of the Center of Reference to the Private Pregnant Woman of the City of Vespasiano - Metropolitan Region of Minas Gerais, in which the main goal is to understand, the information practices of the prisoners, in particular their strategies to search, appropriate and share information. The research has exploratory character and qualitative nature. It is assumed that the understandings of what are information, its organization, its use and the consequences arising from the act of informing are a sine qua non condition in the search and generation of knowledge. Thus, the goal is to investigate the profile of these women in a context that, although exclusive to mothers and future mothers, is fragile and adverse in the search for rehabilitation and, at the same time, to ana-lyze the barriers found by those women in the search for information, especially in-formation that they feel should be useful and necessary to their lives in prison. Data collection techniques include participatory observation and semi-structured inter-views. The data were analyzed by the theoretical models that guided the research, namely: Savolainens Everyday Life Information Seeking model (ELIS); the concepts of informational poverty and life in the round presented by Chatman; and the infor-mation practices model of Pamela Mckenzie, according to the extended version pro-posed by Yeoman. The results indicate that the inmates are concerned with obtaining information about their sentences and about the health of their children, as well as seeking news of their companions, who were often imprisoned. Regarding reading, many reported that they would like to have access to readings that refer to the prison universe, especially issues of law.
