A pedra que veio lá do infinito: o meteorito de Bendegó e o Museu Nacional

Abstract

The text retrieves the trajectories of the Bendegó meteorite which was exposed in the entrance hall of the National Museum. The importance of this scientific discovery and the appropriations of the meteorite by northeastern people are highlighted in the approach. The social and historical contexts that surround the various attempts and the accomplishment of the meteorite’s transport to the National Museum are recovered through the analysis, for the most part, of Official Report from José Carlos de Carvalho – responsible for the coordination of the expedition which transported the meteorite to Rio de Janeiro between 1887 and 1888.
