Literatura itinerante, l absence d oeuvre, e capital simbólico: o caso de edgar allan poe

Abstract

Literature travels to other times and places and, in the process, undergoes changes and reevaluations. Traditional understanding of these mutations in terms of the appropriation of an original meaning to be reinterpreted at the moment of reception minimizes the relevance of the structural conditions of the original object that allow for reappropriations. Emphasis on the reproduction of meaning at the point of reception tends to preserve the autonomy of both the author and of his achievement. The concept of “absence d’oeuvre” in Foucault, which points to an absence at the origin of the work, paves the way to an understanding of the conditions of possibility of literature’s travels and of the transgressions and reevaluations that follow. The travels of Edgar Allan Poe’s literary work is a major illustration of how these transgressive changes occur.
