Melanoplastia: relato de caso clínico

Abstract

Dentistry has used several techniques to achieve aesthetically desired results, without compromising function. In periodontics, plastic surgery has been a good option to achieve success in the treatment and harmonization of the smile. Gingival depigmentation, melanoplasty or gingival peeling is a periodon-tal plastic surgery that removes or reduces hyperpigmentation through de-epithelialization, when this is a patient's demand. Objective: to present a clini-cal case of the melanoplasty technique applied to the upper anterior region of the maxilla. The treatment indicated was the gingival technique, using epithe-lial abrasion, using manual instruments (scalpel blade and Kirkland gin-givotome). Results: Within the limit of the exposed clinical case, in the 90-day postoperative follow-up, it was possible to observe the complete healing and harmony of the coloring of the gingival tissue. However, the results of melano-plasty are not definitive, and there is a tendency to relapse. The probability of recurrence should be highlighted to the patient, considering the possibility of repeating the surgical procedure in the long term. Conclusion: the proposed technique was effective in removing the melanin pigment, resulting in a satis-factory aesthetic.
