Rosa, Goethe e Milton: prolegômenos a diálogos poético-bíblicos

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the traces of texts by João Guimarães Rosa, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and John Milton, in other words, Grande sertão: veredas, Faust, and Paradise Lost, respectively, which compose the poetico-biblical dialogues among them. We contend that these traces can be read as parallel songs or as “trans-creations”. We also propose to investigate how the Brazilian novel establishes a dialogue with the German tragic play in the re-creation of the Devil’s myth and its possible other elaborations, elements that are also present in the dialogue between the German and the English texts. Mikhail Bakhtin’s idea of dialogism will serve as the basis for this study, with dialogism being a part of the relation between texts: both absorbing previous texts and replying to another text. Jacques Derrida’s thoughts on the supplement will enrich the study of these dialogues with the term working as the writing of the proliferation of meanings.
