Resumo
O presente trabalho investiga a figura do autor a partir dos estudos elaborados por Roland Barthes e Michel Foucault no final dos anos sessenta e no início dos anos setenta. Neles encontramos uma crítica à noção de autor, que é associada à modernidade europeia e a uma visão individualista. Apesar de se aproximarem nessas considerações críticas, pretendemos mostrar que as análises de Barthes e Foucault se distanciam quanto aos seus objetivos e alcances. Ao decretar a “morte do autor”, Barthes está tratando do fim de uma espécie de instituição literária. Já Foucault chega à questão do autor por outra via e se volta não exatamente sobre a figura do autor literário, mas sobre o autor de um discurso. O interesse de Foucault é mais propriamente filosófico, pois se interroga pelas condições históricas de possibilidade dos discursos. O autor é, nessa perspectiva, uma especificação possível da função sujeito, entendido como um procedimento interno de controle e delimitação do discurso.
Abstract
This study investigates the figure of the author from the researches conduced by Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault in the late sixties and early seventies. In them we find a critique of the notion of author, which is associated with European modernity and its individualistic view. Although they were very close on these critical considerations, we intend to show that the analysis of Barthes and Foucault have different goals and achievements. By enacting the “death of the author”, Barthes is talking about the end of a kind of literary institution. On the other hand, Foucault comes to the issue from another way and turns not just on the author’s literary figure, but on the author of a discourse. Foucault’s interest is more properly philosophical, because it raises the historical conditions of possibility of discourse. The author is, in this perspective, one possible specification of the subject-function, understood as an internal procedure of control and delimitation of discourse.
