Abstract

Purpose: The study seeks to investigate the identity and identification of public health workers, more specifically in a health center in Belo Horizonte. Design/methodology/approach: Characterized by as quantitative research, it also ac-cess thequalitative approach, carried out through a case study, as a way of under-standing the phenomena evidenced in depth. Data were constructed from a structured questionnaire with a Likert scale, and the treatment consisted of a simple statistical test with frequency distribution and descriptive analysis of information.Research, Practical & Social implications: The main theoretical contributions indicate that most of the respondents feel identified with public health at an average level. The most identified people are the most emotionally committed to the organization, which reinforces findings by Bandeira, Marques and Veiga (2000) and Medeiros (1997).Theoretical/practical/social contributions:It was observed that identity and identifi-cation are important factors in the performance of professional activities and that they are related to efficiency and effectiveness. Originality/value: The research adheres to the factors linked to increased performance and quality in the public health service in basic health units.
