Abstract

The dental hygienist (TSB) belongs to a professional category of the oral health team responsible for direct action on dental care at the individual level and in prevention and health promotion at the collective level. His presence, if utilized properly, can increase the coverage of oral health actions to the population assisted. The objective of this review was to describe the oral health technician in the family health strategy. Information was obtained through a review of the literature with articles from the last five years. The results showed that there are barriers to the work of the TSB in oral health teams, the lack of clarity in relation to their functions, for ignorance of the law and even the difficulty of the dentist to work as a team, supervising and delegating.
