local.description.resumoThe optical properties of Amazon oils of açaí, andiroba, buriti and copaíba, which are abundant natural oils found in Amazon region, were studied via steady state and time resolved spectroscopy on diluted solutions. Their absorption and emission spectra were observed to be mainly formed by proportional contributions of oleic acid and β-carotene compounds. Time decay measurements corroborate this statement. The low quantum emission efficiency of these oils is discussed taking into account the antioxidant properties of both oleic acid and β-carotene. Moreover, the enhancement of the steady-state phosphorescence emission of β-carotene molecules was observed in a solid-state film with decreasing temperature.
