Resumo
Este artigo examina o papel das variáveis contextuais na produção do texto traduzido e apresenta um estudo baseado na tradução de um questionário utilizado na área da Saúde. Tendo como base a teoria sistêmico-funcional da linguagem (HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2014) e as abordagens sistêmico-funcionais da tradução (MATTHIESSEN, 2001), foram analisadas três versões do texto traduzido, sendo uma delas o texto obtido ao cabo da tradução e adaptação cultural, metodologia convencional das Ciências da Saúde, e as outras duas, resultado da etapa complementar à metodologia de tradução e adaptação cultural, nomeadamente adequação cultural, a qual se configura como um procedimento destinado a garantir a plena funcionalidade do texto traduzido para uso na população alvo (CECÍLIO, 2016). A análise textual enfocou o exame das variáveis do contexto de situação do texto original e de cada texto traduzido e suas realizações linguísticas. Os resultados mostraram aproximação entre os padrões de escolhas linguísticas do texto original e do texto traduzido e adaptado culturalmente, ambos se apresentando como textos escritos com caráter mais monológico, enquanto que os dois textos obtidos após a etapa complementar de adequação cultural evidenciaram escolhas linguísticas pautadas pela demanda de sua função como textos falados de caráter dialógico. O estudo aponta a relevância da análise textual para a execução da tarefa de tradução e da colaboração interdisciplinar para a tradução do tipo de texto examinado.
Abstract
This article examines the role of contextual variables in translated text production and presents a study based on the translation of a questionnaire for use in healthcare services. Drawing on systemic-functional theory ((HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2014) and systemic-functional approaches to translation (MATTHIESSEN, 2001),three versions of the translated text were analysed. One of them was the product of translation and cross-cultural adaptation, a conventional methodology in health science, while the other two were obtained after the performance of a complementary stage in translation and cross-cultural adaptation, namely cultural adequacy, a procedure aimed at guaranteeing that the translated text is fully functional for use with the target population (CECÍLIO, 2016). Text analysis focused on the context of situation variables of the original text and of each of the three translated texts and their linguistic realizations. Results showed analogous patternsof language choice in the original text and the translated and cross-culturally adapted text, both being written texts of a more monologic nature, whereas the texts produced after the stage of cultural adequacy showed language choices responding to the need for their being functional as spoken texts of dialogic nature. The study points to the relevant role of text analysis in translation tasks and of interdisciplinary collaboration in translation of the text type analysed.
