Avaliação do efeito de substituição de culturas alimentares e pastagens por lavoura de cana no município de Pompéu - MG

Abstract

This study aimed evaluate the spatial growth of sugarcane plantations in Pompéu-MG. Were determined if sugarcane activity replaced pasture and food crops in this municipality. The effect of crop substitution was used to analyze the expansion of sugarcane crops, and whether these could have replaced temporary crops and pasture areas. In the period of 1985-95 / 96 the areas of sugarcane grew, with a substitution effect of 2,396.78 hectares, while the pastures had a negative substitution effect. Between 95 / 96-2006, the substitution effect for sugarcane was 5,201.85 hectares, with pasture areas having an effect of -1,266.16 hectares. The areas of temporary crops, presented a percentage evolution of the occupied area of -12.62% between 1985-95 / 96 and -76.82% for 95/96-2006 period. Were verified that the sugarcane expansion in the region encouraged the substitution of food production areas and pasture areas.
