Resumo
Essa pesquisa reflete sobre o uso experimental e inovador de tintas modernas por Ivan Ferreira Serpa no começo da década de 1950. Três aspectos serão discutidos: a disponibilidade de tintas modernas com base alquídica no Brasil, o artista e seu método de criação e três pinturas produzidas até 1953. O emprego da tinta alquídica é inaugural pois embora esse produto estivesse disponível para uso comercial e industrial a sua apropriação na arte ainda não havia sido empregada. Os impactos visuais que esse material possibilitou, no entanto, interessaram o artista, que até então utilizava a tinta à óleo artística. As fontes jornalísticas citadas nesse texto também são inéditas e expõem pensamentos pessoais de Ivan Serpa bem como a sua preocupação com o uso de novos materiais.
Abstract
This research reflects on the experimental and innovative use of modern paints by Ivan Ferreira Serpa in the early 1950s. Three aspects will be discussed: the availability of modern alkyd based paints in Brazil, the artist and his method of creation and three paintings produced until 1953. The use of the alkyd paint is inaugural because this product was available for commercial and industrial use but its appropriation in the art had not yet been used. The visual impacts that this material offered interested the artist who until then had used artistic oil paint. The journalistic sources mentioned in this text are also unpublished and expose personal thoughts of Ivan Serpa as well as his opinion over the use of new materials.
