Abstract

This text aims to support the thesis that the world of art is distinguished from the world of life because the first one is where the fictional regime par excellence occurs. I will take into account the two types of theory proposed by Arthur Danto as two general types on the basis of which the world of art is thought, i.e. the theory of imitation and the theory of the real. I will suggest a continuity between them. The primacy of fiction is characteristic of the art world. However, the fictional character of representation in art cannot be thought without the pole of the real. The fictional presupposes and designates the real by outlining the boundaries between the world of art and that of life. The two poles stay in constant confrontation without, however, definitively undoing the differences between them.
