Estrelas em Pauta: Revisitando o Protagonismo Negro na Corrida Espacial da Década de 1960

Abstract

The objective of this study was to revisit black protagonism in the space race of the 1960s, retelling the life stories of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. To this end, the narrative of the film Hidden Figures was used. Specifically, the aim was to align the life stories of the film's protagonists with the social phenomena experienced at the time in the United States, highlighting the aspects that circumvented the racial segregation experienced in the country. The film used a narrative format that allowed for the overlapping of aspects of greater representation for the development of the study. The stories were retold, with aspects of sublimation of the cinematographic effects. The considerations involved the alignment of the theoretical assumptions that systematized the unfolding of the practices and the social context experienced by the three protagonists, according to their biopics.
