A condição juvenil de surdos no ensino médio

Abstract

This paper introduces part of a research already done about the school life of young deaf people in high school, and it highlights some aspects related to the youth situation of these students, for example, the relationship among the family, the job and the free time. The study was performed in the city of Belo Horizonte/MG, in a public school, for about seven months. A total of nine deaf people from two classes were followed-up, seven females and two males. However, will be emphasized, in this article, the interviews with four of these students. The case study was chosen so that this research could be performed, which study contemplates the participant observation, interviews with semi-structured guidelines and questionnaire application. Based on the investigation, we could verify that the relationships set among the families seem to influence in how the young build its youth situation. The data from the questionnaires added to the observations at field have shown certain approach of the results found in the research “Profile of the Brazilian youth” (2005), which indicates the linguistic particularity as a factor which distinguishes the young, not as much in their practices, but related to whom the activities are developed. The young people who communicate entirely through Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), for example, are limited to the interaction of their peers. Regarding to the labor, the young deaf people also look like the young hearing people concerning to the meanings they assign to the labor activity and to the aspirations for the future.
