Lazer e cinema: representações das mulheres em filmes latino-americanos contemporâneos

Abstract

Considering the cinema as a leisure experience very widespread in the present day, this paper aims to analyze the representations of women in two Latin American films: The Club and Women in power. It seeks to verify if these films open possibilities of female empowerment. The methodology of this qualitative research involved three strategies: bibliographical research, interviews and film analysis. The results showed that the women were represented in a position of dominion, assuming the roles that they had to fulfill. They reproduce, however, the patriarchal model. While in the film Women in Power there is an inversion, not an overcoming of this model, in the film The Club these roles are reinforced. The identity markers that make up the Monica character are gender and religion, revealing practices that conflict with the precepts of the Catholic Church. The identity markers that make up the female characters in the film Women in Power are gender and profession, but the political work they carry out is portrayed in a distorted and stereotyped way. It can be seen in the two films analyzed that the film narrative is constituted from the patriarchal gaze, without contributions to the emancipatory empowerment of women.
