Desafios na aplicação da lei 10.639/03 e alternativas para a sua implementação em uma escola municipal de Belo Horizonte

Abstract

Law 10.639/03 is fundamental to ensure the expansion of knowledge of Africa and its influence on the construction of Brazilian history and culture. However, the lack of knowledge of this law and the way to apply it has hindered its implementation. The present work aimed to identify the challenges for the implementation of this law in the researched school. Alternatives were recommended to broaden the possibilities of law enforcement in daily school life. The study subjects were the faculty of the institution, with which a questionnaire was applied, and a focus group was also conducted. With the students of the 1st year of the 3rd cycle (7th grade), the project “Africa: continent of the great kingdoms and empires” was developed. By working on the history of Africa, it was possible to contribute to the deconstruction of the negative imaginary and the affirmation of a positive vision of the continent and African descendants. Reflecting on ethnic-racial belonging among students and fostering action to combat racism was another significant gain of the project. Finally, it was realized that the success of affirmative policies, such as Law 10.639/ 03, necessarily depends on the engagement of social actors involved in the process in school, as well as physical, material, intellectual and affective conditions.
