Monitoramento do uso e cobertura do solo em Sete Lagoas e Prudente de Morais- MG entre 1990 -2015

Abstract

Quantifing the urban growth is fundamental for the sustainable land planning, because it may guide the decision-making process related to the municipal zoning. The present work analysed in a multitemporal way the land use, its soil coverage, and urban expansion of the cities of Sete Lagoas and Prudente de Morais –MG, based on the information extracted from Landsat satellite images. The results suggest that the urban growth spatial trend is happening due to the replacement of native vegetation and agricultural land by urban structures. In Sete Lagoas it occurs by the expansion from the center to northeast, southwest and southeast, in Prudente de Morais in the southwest and east directions, both municipalities with urban expansion that may affect to the Marinheiro Creek watershed which is an important area of recharge and supply. Its occupation by industrial activities represents an environmental problem. This work is a contribution to understanding of the dynamics of the local urban expansion and support the urban planning.
