Resumo
Chemical control is the most used weed control practice due to its high efficiency and usability. Several herbicides, such as nicosulfuron, are licensed for maize crops in Brazil. Nicosulfuron is recommended for post-emergence control and belongs to the sulfonylurea group, inhibiting the acetolactate synthase (ALS) and suppressing plant growth. Pests also reduce maize production by damaging plants and seeds in the field and seeds in storage facilities. Cost-effective, efficient, and sustainable control tactics, such as biological control using parasitoids are essential to manage pests and reduce pesticide use. Trichogramma spp. (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) are the most used parasitoids in biological control programs worldwide due to their efficiency in controlling Lepidoptera, wide geographical distribution, and low production cost.
