Precisamos falar sobre O Ódio que Você Semeia: uma análise fílmica do racismo institucionalizado

Abstract

This article aimed to promote reflections, through a film analysis, about the institutionalization of racism in American society based on the analysis of the film The Hate U Give, in order to align the unilateral view of evolution of society to discussions about racism with the black population. The research becomes relevant due to the recent cases of homicides of black men committed by the North American police without any motivating fact, arousing the indignation and perception in the African American population that they were racial hate crimes. The recurrence of cases provoked a popular uprising called Black Lives Matter. In order to achieve the proposed objective, a bibliographic review was carried out on the historical institutionalization of racism and its new forms of expression as well as the reorientation of society with respect to the racial discursive context. Then, the presentation of the film object of analysis was carried out and the analysis of five sections of the film in order to explore the concepts presented. The results showed that the film The Hate U Give has a high reflexive charge about institutionalized racism in American society, allowing to illustrate how the processes and the racist relationship of society occur in that context. This analysis refers only to the film previously mentioned. Despite bringing contributions to the theme, it should not be generalized.
