Aprendizagem da alfaiataria no Brasil: transformações em curso

Abstract

For centuries, tailoring has followed strict rules in its learning process, through the master/apprentice relationship, but other ways of teaching tailoring are beginning to strengthen. Tailors understood that there is a possibility on the internet to expand their reach, and promote the work that until then was restricted to the spaces of their ateliers. We saw the start of a movement to disseminate details of the manufacturing processes, through quick videos, and then an important offer of on-line training courses, something unusual considering an area marked by discretion and the strict secrecy of its modus operandi. The communication to be presented is a part of an ongoing doctorate, which seeks to understand the dimension of the use of audiovisual in the process of learning a traditional and secular craft such as tailoring. The movement of openness and sharing of the tailors' knowledge indicate that, even in important details that escape us due to the inevitable difficulties of the work registration process, there is still a way to make the art of traditional tailoring in Brazil remain, even minimally.
