Impactos causados pelas ocorrências pluviométricas no ambiente urbano da cidade de Montes Claros – MG

Abstract

Floods, also called inundations or torrents, are disorders that are currently occurring in countless cities, due to several factors, such as the occurrence of large volumes of rain, growing, disorderly, and unplanned urbanization, the precariousness and, at the same time, the absence of maintenance in drainage systems responsible for capturing and conducting rainwater, such as manholes and channels, among several other factors. With respect to Montes Claros - MG, this city has been continuously hit by floods in almost all neighborhoods as well as in central area of the city. The flooding problems in Montes Claros are related to the overflowing canals, clogged manholes, and a varied amount of growing vegetation in channel beds. Also contributing to the degradation of the drainage system is the large amount of garbage or debris thrown along the margins or in the respective channel beds. Likewise, urbanization, which has been occurring in an increasing, disordered, and unplanned way, contributes to the increase in the impermeabilization in the city due to the paving of public roads and buildings. Another important factor and with a significant contribution is the increase in the generation of solid waste caused by this urban growth and, hence, favoring to aggravate, more and more, the problems related to urban drainage. Therefore, the present work sought to show, through texts, images, and comments, a view of the impacts caused by the occurrences of rains in the urban environment of Montes Claros - MG and conditions of the urban drainage system, once its population and the city as a whole has suffered, every year, several disorders as a result of floods or inundations that have taken place in the town.
