Abstract: | Evidence from epidemiological studies suggests a probable association between UI and DL correlating pelvic floor muscle dysfunction as a contributing factor for urinary disorders or lumbopelvic pain. This study aimed to review the scientific literature to identify and study publications on the relationship between urinary incontinence and low back pain in the elderly. The information was obtained from October 2018 to January 2019 in the Medline / PubMed, Pedro, Cinahl, Lilacs, Scopus, Scielo, Cochrane, with the descriptors "urinary incontinence", "elderly", "older", "aged" and "low back pain". We included articles that studied the association between low back pain and urinary incontinence in people aged 60 years or more of both sexes. Five studies met the participation criteria and were included. It was evidenced the existence of a relationship between lumbar pain and IU in sosos, and the urgency UI was significantly associated with mild and severe DL in elderly women and UI increased the risk of having DL in men and women compared to the absence of UI. The results show that more studies are necessary with more significant samples and inclusion of other outcomes that can mediate the relationship between these two constructs, as well as clarification of the causal relationship and the types of UI and DL. |
