Abstract: | The present doctoral thesis proposes to understand conflict mediation through the primordial focus on language and the dialogue between subjects. It is founded on phenomenological hermeneutics, and its core is a critique of technicism, in a paradigmatic approach in which conflict mediation may be attained as if in a new habitat: like a work of art. For this purpose, Martin Heidegger’s ontological phenomenology was the theoretical framework used for the deconstruction of the conflict mediation in its fascination for a utilitarian, procedural and technicist habitat. Using this theoretical approach, it is possible to envision conflict mediation in a field where phenomena occur and where they accomplish by themselves the exhibition of the individual truths, therefore allowing this process itself to be understood as a work of art in the sense proposed by Heidegger. Conflict mediation, as seen in this new habitat and recognized as a work of art, facilitates the path where empathic listening and care may take place in a dialogic and phenomenological way, bringing forth unveiling and uncovering-up of the involved human beings – the ones and the others and their respective truths. The focus of this doctoral thesis is, therefore, a critique of the technicist mediation as a means of implementing a calculating and predictive thought, which has its origins in modern technicism producing a degenerative process of thinking and acting as opposed to a virtuous path for conflict mediation from which empathic listening and care can be seen as essential both for the mediator and also for those being mediated. |
