A construção da identidade racial: algumas reflexões a partir da sala de aula

Abstract

This theme was chosen with the intention of do have reflective work with the students about ethnic- racial matters, building of cultural and ethnic identity, racism, prejudice and discrimination that happen inside school on a daily basis. In this study, having the practice as a starting point, it will be possible firstly learn about the concepts of racism, prejudice and discrimination that permeate the interpersonal relations inside the school and have negative influence on the citizen education of the students. This way, the milestone for the discussion and reflection will be the 10639/03 law, that will provide detailed studies about the theme in the school environment. Discussing about the ethnic –racial matters at school is vital for the whole Brazilian society. We live in a historically uneven society, since slavery days until today. Secondly, there is the issue of the school environment (classroom) where black children verbally assault other black children calling them name such as “ monkey” “nigga” or “ bad hair nigga” as if they weren’t black like the others. In light of this context, I started the work with the “doll test” which had a big impact, because since really young, the children already had an idea of the image of the black people in society. Right after, the “neck test” was done, to identify the number of black people working in subordinate positions in shops and offices, as well as people who use public transport and children that go to public schools for them to reflect. Later, we watched and discussed the movie “Vista minha pele” where the students reflected, and answered some questions comparing the film with their own reality. After the experience we studied concepts and learning more deeply about the 10639/03 law and its historical context of creation.
