| Abstract: | Neste artigo utilizou-se o enfoque da análise econômi- ca do crime para compreender os determinantes das punições a violações de regras nos jogos da série A do Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol em 2012. Foram estimados modelos sobre os determinantes das faltas mais graves cometidas pelos atletas dos clubes da série A do Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol, punidas com cartões amarelos e vermelhos (modelos de re- gressão Poisson e Binomial Negativa). Os resultados sugerem que: (a) os atletas do time mandante rece- bem, em média, um número menor de cartões amare- los e vermelhos; (b) parece existir tendência crescente das punições ao longo do campeonato e (c) existe não- linearidade entre as punições e a variável gols. |
| Abstract: | In this article we used the approach of economic anal- ysis of crime to understand the determinants of pun- ishment for offences in games of Brazilian Soccer Championship in 2012. Models on the determinants of the most serious offenses committed by athletes from clubs in the Brazilian Championship, punished with red and yellow cards (Poisson regression models and negative binomial) were estimated. In fact, athletes seem to respond to economic incentives. Our results suggest that: (a) the athlets of the home team receive, on average, a smaller number or red and yellow cards; (b) there is a positive trend of punishments through the championship and (c) there is non-linear relation- ship between punishments and goals. |
