dc.description.abstract | The treatment of poultry layers waste by anaerobic digestion is a sustainable alternative for generation of income and energy for small farmers, as well as for the final disposal of this organic material with high polluting potential. In this sense, the objective of this work was to compare the efficiency of anaerobic digestion of laying hens and quails waste based on the reduction of volatile solids during the bioprocess, using easily constructed rural biodigesters. Anaerobic digestion was carried out in a batch regime, by adding water and poultry waste in polyethylene biodigesters. The process was monitored for 60 days by determining the levels of total solids (TS), volatile solids (VS), VS/TS ratio, total phosphorus, temperature and pH. The treatment of the laying hen waste showed better pH stability and higher efficiency in removal of organic matter, presenting higher volatile solids reduction than quails waste. These results demonstrate that use of anaerobic digestion to treat laying poultry waste has great prospects, and they point to the development of new studies focusing on the optimization of VS content of the effluents used. | pt_BR |
| pt_BR |
