| Abstract: | Este estudo teve como objetivo a tradução comentada do livro The Value of Art de Michael Findlay para o português, juntamente como o relato da minha experiência como galerista de arte. O livro de Findlay explora os diferentes aspectos do valor da arte, incluindo a avaliação financeira, a importância histórica e cultural, e a percepção subjetiva. A tradução foi realizada levando em conta as nuances culturais e linguísticas para garantir a fidelidade ao original para ampliação da sua leitura em uma comunidade lusófona. Dentre os processos metodológicos utilizados para a tradução, adotou-se a abordagem autoetnográfica a fim de explorar a minha experiência como galerista, incluindo desafios e descobertas relacionadas à comercialização e promoção de arte contemporânea. O estudo buscou proporcionar uma contribuição para a compreensão mais profunda dos desafios e complexidades relacionadas ao valor da arte e como esses aspectos se relacionam com a experiência como galerista. |
| Abstract: | This study aimed to provide an annotated translation of Michael Findlay's The Value of Art into Portuguese, paired with a personal account of my experiences as an art gallerist. Findlay's book delves into the multifaceted nature of art's value, encompassing financial assessment, historical and cultural significance, and subjective interpretation. The translation process was mindful of cultural and linguistic nuances to ensure accuracy to the original text and to broaden its reach within the Portuguese-speaking community. As part of the translation's methodological approach, I employed an autoethnographic perspective to shed light on my journey as a gallerist, highlighting challenges and insights related to the marketing and promotion of contemporary art. The research aimed to offer a deeper understanding of the challenges and intricacies associated with the valuation of art and its intersection with the gallerist experience. |
