Abstract: | This text aimed to understand how waste pickers of recyclable materials establish their work spaces through the Recycling Network of the State of Rio de Janeiro. In order to answer the question posed, as an operational methodology, surveys were applied to a total population of 3084 waste pickers of recyclable materials in the state of Rio de Janeiro. After the application of these surveys, the data were tabulated and organized, transforming them into graphic information that can be analyzed. The intersection between the methodological-operational procedure and the specific literature required by the observed reality raises some specific characteristics of this population, such as: informal and precarious working conditions, low-income class, low educational level, advanced age, lack of professional training, the lack of access to the formal labor market and, therefore, the spatial experience of these subjects from social marginality. |
