A produção científica sobre Polícia Comunitária na Academia de Polícia Militar de Minas Gerais

Abstract

For its world wide distribution, the philosophy of Community Policing has been ranked as the most important innovation in the environmental police for three decades. This importance has also been reflected in a rich and growing scientific world. Recent research has revealed that the model of policing was the most studied topic in the early years of the century when it comes specifically to police literature. The first experiments in community policing began in Minas Gerais in the late 80's and gained momentum in 1999 in Belo Horizonte. Accompanying these organizational changes, the scientific literature about Community Police led by military police has increased significantly in the Academy of Military Police of Minas Gerais (APM/MG). This research is aimed to understand the characteristics and current status of scientific literature about Community Police developed at the Academy of Military Police of Minas Gerais. Using a descriptive and quantitative approach, this study mapped and analyzed a total of 129 bibliographies produced by the military between January 2000 and September 2010. The main conclusions are that most of the research produced in the APM/MG used quantitative approaches and were caused by police officers in positions intermediate or tactical level in the organization. Moreover, it was found that the volume of work has grown dramatically in the period 2002 to 2007, following a worldwide trend. Despite this growth, some topics such as the Fica Vivo Program and the Network of Protected Neighbours; aspects dealing with human resources and enhancement of preventive community, and evaluation indicators of community policing are poorly explored and represent good opportunities for study.
