| Title: | Aleitamento materno e sua importância na prevenção e promoção em saúde bucal |

| Abstract: | Este trabalho apresenta argumentações sobre a amamentação natural para a saúde geral e bucal do indivíduo. O objetivo foi realizar uma revisão de literatura a respeito dos benefícios do aleitamento materno para o bebê e para a mãe e enfatizar a contribuição da amamentação natural para a saúde bucal e desenvolvimento harmônico da face. O aleitamento materno é preconizado pela OMS, exclusivamente até os 6 meses de idade, e complementar até os 2 anos de idade, como alimento mais adequado ao bebê para redução da morbidade e mortalidade. Apesar de todos os benefícios conhecidos, a quantidade de crianças amamentadas no peito ainda não é satisfatória. Vários autores vêm se preocupando em estudar a associação do aleitamento materno e a aquisição de hábitos bucais viciosos e maloclusões e, embora haja controvérsias, a importância na estimulação do crescimento da face é bem comentada. É evidente a necessidade de capacitação dos profissionais para trabalhar o aleitamento materno como estratégia de promoção de saúde nas unidades básicas de saúde. |
| Abstract: | This paper presents arguments on breastfeeding to oral and general health of the individual. The objective was to review the literature regarding the benefits of breastfeeding for baby and mother, emphasizing the contribution of breastfeeding to oral health and harmonious development of the face. Breastfeeding is recommended by WHO, exclusively until 6 months of age, and complementary to the 2 years of age as the baby food more suitable for reducing morbidity and mortality. Despite all the known benefits, the amount of breast fed children is not yet satisfactory. Several authors have been increasingly concerned in studying the association of breastfeeding and the acquisition of oral habits and malocclusion and vicious, although there are controversies importance in stimulating the growth of the face is well commented. Clearly the need to train health professionals to work breastfeeding as a strategy for health promotion in primary care units. |
