Formação de valores e atitudes: como professores do ensino fundamental enfrentam este desafio

Abstract

In this thesis we present the results of a research about school teachers` beliefs, values and practices with the formation of values and attitudes. The school that served as the backdrop investigation belongs to an area of high social vulnerability in Belo Horizonte city and this picture brings challenges and difficulties for teachers practices and daily work with the students. We analysed the results in the light of studies on Moral Education and pointed out the importance that the teachers assign to the discussion on values and attitudes considering the reality of the school. Focus groups and semi-structured interviews were used as methodological strategies. The research focused on the challenges, difficulties, dilemmas and practical actions related by teachers in order to contribute to the moral formation of the students. Teachers report that the main difficulties they face in daily school are insecurity, indiscipline, violence, lack of respect, the counter-values that students bring with them, beside fear in dealing with situations of risk to which the students are submitted in and out of the school. We found that teachers consider as highly important the work with the formation of values and attitudes. For this, they develop dynamic that encourage dialogue and listening and are sensitive to situations that happen in the classroom. The teachers also consider important to work in situations that provide an affective relationship with students and contribute to their self esteem rescue.
