A proteção do patrimônio bibliográfico no Brasil: um estudo de caso em cidade histórica

Abstract

This research was conducted in order to identify on the challenges and mechanisms for the protection of bibliographic heritage in Brazil, focusing on collection of rare books kept in a historic city. The research intended to reduce the gap bibliography on the protection of cultural property in bibliographical in our country and demonstrate the importance of studies of rare books collections from the urban context in which they are live. The proposed cut came from the design of the historic city as a place of memory, where all categories of cultural goods are supposedly preserved and the state's role in the protection of cultural heritage in these spaces. For instruments adopted by the state for this purpose, tipping is the main instrument for real estate protection, which does not always include the movable collections stored by the historic buildings. The study proposed the intersection of the fields of information science, through the Library of Rare Books and the Law of the cultural heritage. The exploratory qualitative base consisted of case study Rare Books School of Mines Library of the Federal University of Ouro Preto, located in the former of the Governors Palace, a building tumbled at the federal level, in the historic center of Ouro Preto (MG). The literature review examined the concepts of cultural, rare books, asset library and historic city. The analysis of the legislation allows us to trace the evolution of laws and policies on the bibliographic heritage in Brazil. The literature review systematized the Ouro Preto consolidation process as a historic city and rescued the process that transformed the School of Mines Library in the Rare Books Library. The document research allowed to identify and discuss the challenges to protect the collection of rare books in this institution. The analysis of the literature on cultural heritage law allowed the evaluation instruments that can be adopted to protect the bibliographic heritage.
