Abstract: Soccer is characterized as a practice of intense physical contact composed of quick short non-continuous movements. It also undergoes changes in relation to physical demands that are increasing for its realization. Because of this, there is a high rate of injuries related to this practice. There is little data about epidemiological injuries to the youth soccer players in Brazil, making it difficult to create and to advance preventive actions. Thus, the aim of this study is to describe and compare the prevalence of injuries in the Under-14, Under-15 and Under-17 categories between the 2013 and 2014 seasons in a soccer club of Minas Gerais. A retrospective observational study was held about injuries occurring in athletes of these categories in a soccer club located in the state of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte city. Analyzed data were related to the 2013 and 2014 seasons and collected through the clubs records. The study included 216 athletes under the age of 18 who have integrated squads of U-14, U-15 and U-17 categories during the period of January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014. In 2013, the prevalence of lesions in the U-17 category was 3.12 injuries/1000 hours and in 2014 it was 2.01 injuries/1000 hours. The U-15 category introduced in 2013 1.25 injuries/1000 hours and in 2014 1.91 injuries/1000 hours. The U-14 category presented 0.83 injuries/1000 hours in 2013 and 0.30 injuries/1000 hours in 2014. In relation to the injured body region, the Under-17 category had heel and ankle region as the most injured with 20 cases in 2013 and 13 cases in 2014. In the Under-15 category, the heel and ankle region and the thigh region showed the highest numbers of injuries with 7 cases in 2013 and, in 2014 the knee region was the most injured with 11 cases. The Under-14 category had thigh as the main injured body region, both in 2013 and 2014 with 8 and 5 cases respectively. Most injuries occurred during training and most caused by overuse. The Under-17 category was the one with the highest prevalence of injury. It can be concluded that the prevalence of lesions in younger individuals differs from the prevalence presented by other studies about professional athletes. As the most part of lesions occurs during training for the three categories, it suggests that improving training conditions and better control of training variables can be preventive actions for these categories.
