Abstract: | This works objective was to conduct a review over the literature on the digital radiographys evolution throughout the years until today comparing it to the regular radiography regarding radicular resorptions and alveolar bone crests diagnosis in the orthodontic treatment. The articles were obtained through search on Google, Bireme and Capes portal and were read and selected by their contents consistency and importance according to the works goals. The level of radicular resorption was related to the radicular shape, apical shape, bone crest morphology, age, gender, treatment duration and digital image. The digital image appeared as an attempt to reduce the patients exposure time to radiation and is improving ever since. It possesses many advantages compared to the regular method besides less exposure time to radiation as well as the possibility to be manipulated with several tools, to be stored, transmitted via internet and also the absence of chemical processing. Based on the studies, it can be observed that the risk of a patient developing moderate or severe radicular resorption at the orthodontic treatments end must be identified at the beginning of the treatment through radiography and followed until the end of the mechanotherapy. Digital radiography is compared to the conventional radiography as far as image quality is concerned and in some cases is considered superior in the diagnosis process. The use of computer mathematics applied to biology improves digital image analysis and provides a more precise diagnosis in the alterations detection. |
